Applicants for an Electrical Installation Apprenticeship have to be good at Maths, Science and English. We can only recruit young people with GCSE’s (grade D or higher) in Maths, Science and English Language (or a subject that requires a good standard of written English).

As we usually carry out our recruitment and selection before GCSE results are known, we will look at an applicant’s predicted GCSE results, test their abilities and interview them before offering a place conditional on the right grades at GCSE being achieved.

When you have applied to On-Site Bristol, you will be invited to take five entrance assessment tests before you can become an Electrical Installation Apprentice -

  • Science Aptitude
  • Maths Aptitude
  • English Aptitude

Details of these tests can be found in the “How to Apply” section of this website.

You must do well in the tests to be considered for an Apprenticeship, as it will show us whether you have the abilities to cope with the training, especially the off-the-job training at college.

Having passed the test, applicants will be invited for an interview at On-Site Bristol. The interview is designed to ensure that you have the right attitude to become an Apprentice, assessing your interpersonal skills, motivation and commitment to training. The interview will be with two members of On-Site Bristol staff, and will use a standard set of questions to ensure equality between all applicants.

This interview will give you an opportunity to tell us about yourself and why you want to work in construction. On-Site Bristol staff will want to know about your school attendance and behaviour record, if you have done particularly well at anything in school as well as what your GCSE results are likely to be.

Any work experience of any sort, spare time activities, work you may have done in your house or garden and teams or clubs you are a member of, are also of great interest to us and will be taken into account during interview.
