Apprentices work towards a number of qualifications, called a “Framework”, usually including an NVQ, a Technical Certificate, at least two Key Skills and Employment Rights & Responsibilities. Some frameworks also have additional skills tests.

The Advanced Apprenticeship Framework for Electrical Installation has the following qualifications –

- NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Electrical Installation (Buildings & Structures) – Level 3

  • Unit 301 Ensure safe site working
  • Unit 302 Diagnose and correct electrical faults
  • Unit 303 Provide technical and functional information to relevant people
  • Unit 304 Maintain a healthy and safe working environment
  • Unit 305 Prepare to install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  • Unit 306 Install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  • Unit 307 Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
  • Unit 308 Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation

- Technical Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology – Installation (Buildings & Structures) Level 2 100/3569/2

  • Unit 201 Working effectively and safely in the electrotechnical environment
  • Unit 202 Principles of electrotechnology (stage one)
  • Unit 203 Application of health and safety and electrical principles (stage two)
  • Unit 204 Installation (buildings and structures)

- Technical Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology – Installation (Buildings & Structures) Level 3 100/3602/7

  • Unit 301 Application of health and safety and electrical principles (stage three)
  • Unit 302 Installation (buildings and structures) inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Unit 303 Installation (buildings and structures) fault diagnosis and rectification
