All apprentices have to be employed, with a contract of employment and terms of employment in line with your normal employment practices.

You will employ your apprentice at or before the start of their training, and must be prepared to continue employment until at least their successful completion of all elements of the apprenticeship framework.

As an employee, your apprentice will be covered by all relevant employment legislation, including holiday entitlement. For guidance and further information, please contact us on 0117-353-3480.

On piece of employment legislation from which apprentices are exempted is that covering the National Minimum Wage. Apprentices’ starting wages should be £105 per week, rising in stages according to progress and achievement. See the attached document (2008 Apprenticeship Pay Rates) for details.

Apprentices are covered by Health & Safety legislation, including special provision for young workers, and must be covered by your employers and public liability insurance. We will be able to give you information and advice on safe working practices, risk assessment and management arrangements in respect of your apprentice and workplace.

On Site Bristol will require you to carry out risk assessments for your apprentice, and to inform us of any accidents, dangerous incidents of work related health issues affecting your apprentice.

Apprentices will be subject to your own company rules and disciplinary processes. You should include in these the requirement for the apprentice to attend off-the-job training and to comply with all reasonable requests by On Site Bristol regarding their training. If your apprentice breaks any rules, or you need to take disciplinary action, you should inform On Site Bristol.
