FINDING AN EMPLOYER
Having an employer is fundamental to an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship.
It is possible for you to start your apprentice training with On-Site Bristol before you have an employer, but you must become employed to complete your Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship.
About a third of On-Site Bristol Apprentices start training without an employer, doing a year’s full-time further education at City of Bristol College, but they will need to have an employer before starting the second year of training.
On-Site Bristol will help you to find an employer, either before you start or during that first year at college. We have worked with several hundred construction employers over the years and each year a number of them will approach us to fill vacancies for apprentices.
We do expect you to look for an employer as well, and will help you to do so. If both of us are looking, then we at least double the chances of finding an employer sooner rather than later.
On-Site Bristol can give you lists of employers, in your chosen trade, that you could approach direct. You can also pick companies from the yellow pages, use the Bristol First Directory at http://www.burrows.co.uk/bristolfirst/, ask family or friends to suggest companies to approach, or look around to find companies near to where you live.
